Latest Feature Developments with Imagekind
Most of our members know that we’re usually pretty good about developing new features very quickly. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been in development to support a new line of products and some new partnerships. Once those requirements are met we’ll get back to meeting some of the new features that have been suggested by our members. Some of the new products coming out of this partnership work is a new line of lower cost framing products which I’m excited to tell you more about a bit later. We DID finally release our new shopping cart this week although most of our upcoming features on the site will focus community features and a better internal email system between members. Following that we’re going to focus on better marketing tools for our members to include the ability to post your works for sale on your own site.
These partnerships are designed to increase traffic and visibility for ALL members. In the meantime, thanks for being patient!
Kelly Smith
Imagekind CEO

Thanks for the update Kelly – we know that you and your team work incredibly hard to make the ik community a success and we really value and appreciate all of your efforts.
Sounds like exciting times ahead – can’t wait to hear more
Hi Kelly –
Will we have to upload additional files of the images we have uploaded already to be able to partake in having our work available to customers in these new smaller sizes?
Also, will the percentage mark-up remain the same for these products?
I received a comment from someone this morning who suggested that there be a way for a customer to pay a small fee to download an image or images of their choice a sa screen saver (preferrably with all the Imagekind and Gallery and image number on the image) so that they can enjoy the image and get used to it before making a final decision to purchase for hanging on their wall –
thank you!
Walter
Sounds great Kelly! Thanks!
Totally – what Chris said. Really looking forward to hearing more about the upcoming developments, too.
Walter, just my opinion, but I’d be concerned that making our images downloadable would really cut into the print sales and damage our reputations.
(1) screen saver resolution would make the image look worse, so they might be afraid to buy the print, and (2) If they can get it electronically and print it themselves, the print quality might not be very good but it would still have our name on it.
My own feeling is that they can take all the time they want to look at it on Imagekind, and decide whether they like it or not.
“Following that we’re going to focus on better marketing tools for our members to include the ability to post your works for sale on your own site”
This sounds like a real winner for me, having tools we can use with or own domains is always a big plus.
Most screen savers, and I’m not sure of how to make one, are very crisp and clear and work “with” the image. I’m sure you’ve all seen so many very beautiful ones. I’m not sure if it would take away from sales, but enhance them.
Meaning, say I have a screen saver at home, and then I think, “Gee, I’d like to have this in my office on the wall”. OR!! “Maybe, some works could be screensavers and some could be prints. Well… it’s a thought anyway.
The point is, people pay for screensavers. So if someone didn’t have, say $50.00 for a print, but a few thousand had, I don’t know… 1.95 (or whatever the going rate would be) for a downloadable screensaver, you’d get a different audience and more exposure.
You never know. Of course, to each their own.
I agree with Sarah that Walter’s idea may not be secure for us. Let’s keep this place for selling prints.
Now what I would like to see:
Prints on perspex
Prints on aluminium
[how about some real top-end product options for our artwork ImageKind?]
Multiple upload option, better still, an FTP upload option, maybe a widget, or an extension for iPhoto, Aperture or Lightrom to export direct to ImageKind.
The option to delete comments would be nice [mine have been allright, but I know some would like this, for their own comments too]
Customisable shop front templates for Pro / Platinum members
A blog page for each Pro / Platinum member [how about giving us a bit more bang for our buck?]
All in all, I love ImageKind, and I wouldn’t change much, but I would add more.
