Can you Trust a Crowd?
That is the question the Brooklyn Museum hopes to answer in their latest photography exhibition titled Click! A Crowd-Curated Exhibition. What makes this show particularly interesting is that the museum entrusts the exhibition process and evaluation of the submissions to visitors of the museum, members of the community and online participants alike.

The purpose, they say, is to test the theory put forth by The New Yorker business and financial columnist James Surowiecki who “asserts that a diverse crowd is often wiser at making decisions than expert individuals [and] explores whether Surowiecki’s premise can be applied to the visual arts.”
So, what does this have to do with Imagekind?
Well, it got me thinking about our artist community and how much combined wisdom we collectively hold. It is truly amazing to think of how many different types of people, from all around the world, makeup the Imagekind community and how our efforts together, are much more productive than our efforts apart.
If you haven’t noticed, we recently put this very idea into practice in a much more prominent way than before by making your thoughts and appreciations of a particular members’ artwork more visible. We encourage all visitors, members and participants of the Imagekind community to share their admiration for all members’ artwork by expressing their enjoyment through adding comments to images and messaging individual artists, letting them know why you appreciate their art.
“Is a diverse crowd just as ‘wise’ at evaluating art as the trained experts?”

I am often surprised at many of the comments that some of my images receive and then I feel very grateful and reinforced in my thinking in the direction that I have been going – Things are always changing and shifting and that means for me that art work that I might have never ever had a chance for people around the world to see so many of my images and that they are not only seeing this work but like it enough to take the time to comment makes the Imagekind System only that much more valuable!
thank you!
