FareStart Wins “Art Inspires” Non-profit Makeover from Imagekind
Back in June Imagekind announced a non-profit giveaway to brighten up a charity in need that we called the Art Inspires Non-profit Makeover. Our blog post and press release on the subject made it far and wide, and the event happened to get this 15 seconds of fame (literally) on the popular local talk show Northwest Afternoon. Here’s the clip, with Imagekind’s President, Kevin Saliba, front and center:

We got a huge response, and after sorting through a bundle of applications we selected a very worthy winner, out of many very worthy candidates. We chose to sponsor a terrific Seattle charity called FareStart. They have a wonderful mission:
FareStart provides a community that transforms lives by empowering homeless and disadvantaged men, women, and families to achieve self-sufficiency through life skills, job training and employment in the food service industry.
And, though their restaurant has a gorgeous interior, all the classroom walls were bare, and ready for a little artistic inspiration. Continue reading for some shots of the big reveal as Imagekind gets to work for this worthy cause.
Here’s a typical FareStart classroom, useful for sure, but a bit lacking in wall decor if you ask us.
Yesterday, Ben and Nate from marketing, along with decorator Kari Takacs from Curtain Call, hung all the artwork donated by Imagekind in the FareStart classrooms and lobby. Kari studied the walls hard and found just the right spots to help make the most of the terrific pieces, and everyone went to work:
FareStart is a wonderful group and some great people as well. Imagekind is thrilled to have helped this non-profit continue their mission in a way only we could. But, we also couldn’t have done this without some spectacular artwork to choose from among our thousands of talented artists. We went with a culinary theme that fit the venue and exemplified inspiring artwork for this unique environment:
Steamin’ Chef Bowl by Mike Cressy
Market produce by Kathy Johnson
Seafood Heaven by Betty Mackey
Crabs by Rick Takagi
Many thanks to all the artists for creating work that really helped Imagekind pass on a feeling of betterment and optimism for those most deserving.
