flash fiction
one must wonder about a cottage inaccessible no windows or doors (at least that i can see) admitting light or revealing whatever is sequestered within
at one time i might have attempted entry cats are curious creatures not easily deterred by seemingly insuperable obstacles but now i prefer imagination to the discovery of what is usually mundane
so i stand in the shadows and magick up stories: bodies stacked precisely by a quiet madman chests full of money in desperate need of laundering the hairshirts and whips of ecstatic flagellants
not bloody likely like the heart inaccessible (no mystery there merely the cowardice of the failed romantic) this quiet box of stone probably holds firewood or old furniture that somebody doesn't know where else to put
yes i could walk around to the front illuminated in moonlight where a door and maybe windows likely sit then scrabble my way inside to satisfy any lingering doubts about its ordinariness but fantasy is often more fun than fact
so you with your hearts barricaded need have no fear of me there will be no indecent probing of whatever wrapped those chains around that casket in your chest i'll write a fairytale full of magick and romance dramatic
instead of reading the dull and faded ink of your ordinary story ~ copyright 2014 RC deWinter
