Description The legend of the Tibertine Sibyl is that she was a seer for the Emperor Augustus. In the year before the Birth of Christ he consulted her and while doing so an image of Mary holding the infant Jesus appeared behind the Sibyl. This was the subject of a stained glass window design by Edward Burne-Jones which in 1887 was used for a window in the church of St Paul in the village of Irton in Cumbria. The window was made by the William Morris Company.
