Written in Bones
We like to think we are free beings, cradling our pliable destinies in our hands like so much clay to be kneaded and shaped into whatever visions we conjure for ourselves. Bur pieces of the past and fragments of the future coalesce when stardust meets biology; old souls are forged into newly-minted flesh.
Our bones carry quiet instructions from the universe. Most never hear them; others, keenly aware, rail against them, inventing complicated patterns of avoidance that never work.
And then there are those of us who accept that our purview over our lives is limited; we learn to listen to that inner voice, the cosmic GPS that maps our path. Whether we are ignorant, rebellious or accepting makes no nevermind. In the end we all find ourselves in the Samarra meant for us.
I have loved and lost and loved again and again, but none of that fierce hot passion was meant to last; the fit was never quite right. Still, I know that there is a heart out there for me as surely as I know my own name. I feel it in my bones, a promise engraved by an unseen hand.
But I grow impatient with age, for how much longer will I walk the earth as the me I am now? Is my heart's happiness to be but a short spark before what lives on is returned to whence it came to be refashioned once again?
What is to be will be. I know this and will take whatever is given, but I cannot resist trying to hurry it along. Under a clouded moon I stood and called your name. Syllables you will never hear lofted into the void, but tonight you will dream of me. ~ copyright 2015 RC deWinter
