Fighting the Independent Fight

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Just wanted to drop a quick note about a sweet new collaboration with REDEFINE, a nationally distributed, independent magazine based in Seattle, dedicated to helping independent artists and musicians get the attention they deserve. Redefine magazine offers an alternative to the mainstream by highlighting independent artists and musicians. An equal opportunity magazine not limited to a narrow style or genre, Redefine covers a large amount of submissions sent to them by highly talented, yet relative nobodies.

Home Staging Expert Debra Gould Decorates Homes with Art from Imagekind

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Imagekind is happy to announce an exciting collaboration with Debra Gould, the Staging Diva, creator of the Staging Diva Home Staging Training Program. With this strategic cooperation, Home Stagers are now able to find art quickly and easily when decorating their clients’ homes for sale. Prior to offering artwork from Imagekind, Home Stagers had few options when trying to outfit a home with specific and appropriate artwork. However, as Debra explains,

Finding appropriate art that will enhance the home without taking over and getting it in the size and framing needed has been challenging until now. I created the Staging Diva Home Staging Art Shop to make this easier and I’ve created specific art galleries for every key room in the house. So you don’t have to wonder if a particular work of art is more appropriate for a master bedroom or dining room for example.

Offering artwork from the Imagekind community for the Staging Diva network creates a valuable resource for professional fulfillment on-demand, and is another addition to our continued pursuit of building the best community for buying, selling and creating art.

About The Staging Diva:

Debra Gould, creator of the Staging Diva Home Staging Training Program, has staged millions of dollars worth of real estate, including seven of her own homes. Debra is the President of Six Elements which offers Home Staging, Interior Redesign and Color Consulting services, as well as the StagingDiva.com website.

Gould has gained international recognition and has been featured in major media in the US and Canada including: HGTV, CNN Money, CBC National News, CBS Radio, GlobalTV, CityTV, The Wall Street Journal, Woman’s Day, Reader’s Digest and more.

You can read more about this collaboration from Debra Gould on her blog, The Business of Home Staging.

Imagekind Now Showcasing More than Fifty Thousand Artists Selling

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Imagekind’s constant growth is a true testament to the innovative way artists can show and sell their work. We recently announced that Imagekind is now offering art from over 50,000 artists, to a fast-growing marketplace of over 250,000 users. Kevin says it best when he explains what this really means for artists and the new way Imagekind can help artists sell their work.

The fact that the Imagekind artist community has grown from just a handful of artists to over 50,000 in just a few years really shows that up-and-coming artists are looking for new ways to display and sell their work. Imagekind is creating a new democracy that allows little-known artists to share the landscape with better-known and established masters. Imagekind’s print-on-demand model allows artists to create their own galleries where they can set their own prices and connect with art lovers looking to discover unique pieces that can be custom framed and delivered to their door within days.

At Imagekind, artists of every medium and style - painters, illustrators and photographers - create online galleries to showcase and sell high-quality prints of their work. Visitors can purchase art prints, create custom framed masterpieces and order newly available greeting cards. In this way, emerging artists are discovered, and established professionals find new clients without relying on agents. Many artists are on track to make $60,000 a year or more in passive income just from their sales on Imagekind.

Three of Imagekind’s featured artists - Eli Halpin, Richard Stine and Sion Lee - are featured in the announcement as having generated new and loyal audiences for their work through their online galleries. Read on to find out how.

Imagekind Artist Natasha Wescoat Shares Valuable Tips at EBSQ

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Natasha Wescoat, one of our top selling artists, has recently contributed a few very interesting articles to the EBSQ blog. I found them particularly insightful and knew they were worth sharing as soon as I finished reading them. I especially like her DIY and whatever-it-takes attitude.

In Creating Your Success: Online Self-Publishing, Natasha says, “Being successful doesn’t mean it must be determined through traditional channels. Media moguls are cutting college to develop their successful technology, artists are fending off traditional education in favor of self education, and writers are finding they don’t have to go through publishers to follow their dreams.” I like her attitude and perception! I am glad to read how she has been able to successfully leverage all the resources available to artists to show and sell their work.

Check out both articles on EBSQ’s blog: Creating Your Success: Online Self-Publishing and Using Flickr To Market Your Art

I am excited to see how all of our amazing artistic collaborations are coming together! Not only does Imagekind have a great relationship with EBSQ but also a fantastic partnership with Flickr, one of the top photo sharing sites. It is fascinating to see how the artistic web continues to grow and spread!

Take a look at Natasha Wescoat’s art at Imagekind. Her whimsical trees are simply captivating and you can now purchase her art as greeting cards.

New York Times Art News: Collecting and Selling Original Artwork

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

There have been some very interesting articles published recently in the New York Times that provide insightful ideas and resources for collecting and selling original and limited edition artwork.

After the Storm

Art is an essential item for every interior. Not only does artwork pull a room together visually, it also helps express who you are by displaying your unique style. However, there is often a certain level of anxiety that surrounds our pursuit of finding artwork. This can be caused by anything from being bashful about explicitly expressing our style on our walls for everyone who visits to see, to simply not knowing what kind of artwork you particularly like.

If you can sympathize, take a look at the articles below. And, let me help calm your anxiety with a not-so-subtle suggestion of where to find artwork from some of the top independent, emerging and established artists from around the world.

Note: In order to read the complete stories, you may need to register with the New York Times, which is free and relatively quick and easy.

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Does Brian Auer ever sleep? He seems to always have something new going on!

It is really amazing to see how some of our innovative member artists come up with new ways to show and sell their work. Brian Auer has collected seven fine art photographers to help contribute with his endeavor to increase the world’s collection of breathtaking photography. As Brian explains in the Fine Art Photo Blog Press Release,

…seven internationally acclaimed fine art photographers work together, publishing a work of fine art photography daily; every day another photographer, each photographer once per week. The works will be up for purchase in two variants…as high-quality but unsigned prints… [and] …as definitive and collectible signed prints.

We at Imagekind are amazed at the level of quality and artistic ability each of these seven photographers exhibit and posses. Each of the artist has the choice where their print orders are fulfilled and we are thrilled and honored at many of the artist’s choice to select Imagekind for this function.

We are proud that our quality is superior enough for such amazing photographers to choose that their spectacular images be printed with us! It is truly amazing how artists are utilizing Imagekind’s print-on-demand service to build their own art businesses.

Amazing Photographers: Underwater and Legally Blind

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

“Bruce did not reveal his blindness until after he had won the award”

Giant Kelp by Bruce Hall

Image: Giant Kelp by Bruce Hall

The above image is an amazing use of timing, lighting and, above all, perception. So much so, that Giant Kelp was the winner of the “Highly Honored” award in the Nature’s Best Photography Magazine Windland Rice Smith International Awards Competition. In addition, this award winning photograph was on display at the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian, Washington D.C. from October 2006 to October 2007.

Indeed, it takes a precise level of perception to depict such a highly acclaimed photograph. This acute level of perception is a difficult task considering the photo was taken underwater, using a slow speed slide film, two small strobes, and a Nikonos V underwater camera.

California Garibaldi by Bruce Hall

Image: California Garibaldi by Bruce Hall

However perception is the very thing Photographer Bruce Hall has had to master not only as any other photographer must, but also in every day life because he, like several other photographers, is legally blind. There is perceivably no possible way to know this fact, simply by looking at Bruce Hall’s photography. But once you do, it makes his images that much more amazing.

There has even recently been some video coverage of Bruce and other extraordinary photographers who are also legally blind at the popular video site Current TV. The story may air nationally on Current’s cable channel soon. You can take a look at the video on the current.com website.

“I love technology. It allows me to see things I never saw” - Bruce Hall

You can read more about Bruce Hall and view more of his underwater photography at his personal site, visualsummit.com.
