We recently told you about one of the cool new features we added in our big site change that lets you easily share your favorite art. Now, I want you to share your favorite images with me. Share your art, and it could get featured.
Under every image on the showartwork page (the page that shows the image with comments), we added a new tool. Now, in addition to having the option of adding a comment, emailing the artist and becoming a fan, you can now share the image. When you click the share button, a box will appear that gives you the option to email the image to a friend, or post it to various online social sites.
So, I want to see the art you love.
Search the site or select one of your own images
Click the share button
Select the email option and send it to me, nathan@imagekind.com
Check the blog and see what others love
Who knows, you might end up seeing the art you love right here on the Imagekind blog.
“Squidoo is the world’s most popular site for building free, single pages about your passions.”
If you haven’t heard of Squidoo yet, listen up because it could help you increase your art print sales. One of the best ways to understand Squidoo is as DailyCandy advises: “Think Friendster meets Wikipedia.” It is essentially a network of pages (lenses, ala Squidoo) about specific topics that users who love those topics create.
So, how can using Squidoo help you sell? Well, what is it you’re passionate about? Several Imagekind artists have already tapped into this excellent resource. Check these out to get some ideas on how you can utilize Squidoo:
If you have yet to create a lens about your artwork, I would encourage you to check it out and start one. If you have started one, I’d love to see it. Throw a link in the comment section and I’d be happy to take a look.
If you have any questions or further ideas on how to use Squidoo more effectively, share them.
This little blog post has pretty much exploded on Digg and I thought I would pass it on. There are some fantastic sites on here that all artists should check out, whether your medium is photography or not.
Stuck In Customs, the photo blog of our own Trey Ratcliff, gets a nice mention as being “probably the best known HDR artist out there. He creates amazing, artistic HDR creations.”
And surprise, the authors love Flickr and share some sick Flickr tools and widgets.

That is the question the Brooklyn Museum hopes to answer in their latest photography exhibition titled Click! A Crowd-Curated Exhibition. What makes this show particularly interesting is that the museum entrusts the exhibition process and evaluation of the submissions to visitors of the museum, members of the community and online participants alike.

The purpose, they say, is to test the theory put forth by The New Yorker business and financial columnist James Surowiecki who “asserts that a diverse crowd is often wiser at making decisions than expert individuals [and] explores whether Surowiecki’s premise can be applied to the visual arts.”
So, what does this have to do with Imagekind? (more…)
I asked Pamela Smith, our guest blogger from the National Redesign Institute, who specializes in one day interior redesign makeovers, if she had some tips she could share with those looking for advice on how they can decorate with art in their homes successfully. She had so much great information that I thought it would be best to break her ideas into separate posts. Read on to find her tips below, and stay on the lookout for her other tips in the coming weeks.
Expressing ourselves through art has been a significant part of our lifestyle throughout history. Our interiors – from the bleakest cave on up – have always displayed some form of art. Yet I often find myself asking why now, in this art-filled day and age, do I see more and more interiors lacking this important finishing touch?
“One publisher I was with sold tens of thousands of prints of one of my images. If that image had been limited to just 1,000 prints, how many people would have missed out? And if more than 1,000 people wanted it, why should I make it so they can’t have it?”
– Crista Forest
Browsing EmptyEasel.com recently, I discovered an intriguing article written by one of Imagekind’s member artists awhile back that I found particularly interesting. In her article, Why Sell Limited Edition Prints? Art Should be for Everyone! Crista Forest asks, “why do limited edition prints even exist?” Her opinions are very insightful and worth reading through.
One of the most compelling reasons Crista Forest shares for why she doesn’t want her art published as limited editions is for reasons similar to what we here at Imagekind believe deeply; the democratization of art and that art should be available for everyone.
I have seen many fantastic artists on both sides of this topic and I would love to know what you think. Do you think that “printing open editions or posters will cheapen your art, or reduce your respectability as an artist in the art world”? Or do you find yourself coming to similar conclusions as Crista Forest does and want to “keep [your] images affordable and available for as long as people want to buy them”?

Why do you do this? Because I love art. That is the reason. Many people ask why I do what I do – why I spend so much time building a free site for artists with no plans of ever charging any fees. I tell them I do it because I can. I do it because someone should, because it needs to be done. Some other art sites out there ask me: Well how do you make money? My answer is: I don’t. This site is not about making money. It’s about building a community where artists can collaborate with other artists, get advice, learn, show their art, find opportunities, have fun and get to know other artists. That’s it. No strings. Don’t you wish everything could be that simple?
