Here is an internal email I just sent to the whole company
“Boy did I get this one wrong.
For the most part people seem to love our new member admin and the associated features.
However they HATE not being able to rearrange images.
Thus, we have to put that feature back.
On the development side we are working hard to get that feature back.
Stay tuned.
Meantime I’ve made this mention in various forums and I will also post to our blog that this feature is going back in as soon as we can get it developed and get a stable version. Late next week perhaps?
What lesson did I learn?
You can add features but once people get used to something you really can’t take it away.”

I thought this was an interesting formula posted by a design student over at Sweden’s renowned design school Hyper Island. It pretty well applies to art and photography doesn’t it? Is there an inspired work of art that isn’t a combination of some other artists style or something seen or known in nature?

As we prepare for to launch in support of our next big partnership, we’ll be unveiling several new features. One of which is a new member email system in the member admin. Our current member-to-member email system was really just an interim system and it’s not even close to perfect. Some of you may have noticed that when you sent an email to another member (telling them that you liked their work for example) they received an email FROM IMAGEKIND and could only reply if they cut and paste your email address from the message. So half the time people just hit the reply button and bounced the message back to Imagekind.
The new member admin will have a messaging system almost exactly like Flickr where you have an inbox. Everytime you login you see if someone sent you a message and you reply from there. You can optionally get notified to your own email everytime someone sends you a messsage.
Lots of other little things too. For example you get to choose what image represents your gallery.
You get a SINGLE unified page that shows statistics for your galleries so you don’t have to click on each image.
We added back a BIG message to shoppers the message option that it was ok for us to forward their contact information to the artist who created the work they bought.
We added PayPal as a commission payment option for our foreign friends!
And so much more.
Two weeks til launch!

One of the more popular questions we get asked is whether or not we’ll introduce any new kinds of products besides what we currently offer. In short the answer is yes. Very soon we’ll announce a few new things but they are still very much in the “wall art” space. After that we’ll be looking at a variety of other products that we think will fit into our brand without degrading our image. Any good ideas you’d like to share? What new products would you like to see? High end artist “portfolio books”? Something else?

Update: The artist is Guido Daniele. This particular series looks like it was created for Animal Planet. As you will see on his website, he has a large body (pun intended) of work on human canvases.
