Fashionable Art | Art Inspired by Fashion

November 19th, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

Fashion is one of my passions and it always has been.  Besides my extreme  adoration for new clothes, there is a  certain glamor that draws me to it and, apparently I’m not alone.  The very popular fashion reality show, Project Runway,  draws 2.3 million viewer per week.

Fashion designers  began to see a bit of celebrity status in the early part of the 20th century as Coco Chanel, Valentino and Yves saint Laurent dominated the 1960s. However, designers began to enjoy rock star status in the 1970s with the likes of Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, and Halston.  Fashion has been a part of rock and roll from the beginning and in turn, rock and roll has influenced fashion. In fact, fashion touches every part of popular culture and art is no exception.  Besides the art of fashion photography, which has given us some of the most beautiful (not to mention controversial) images ever snapped, it has also  inspired many artist in the same way designers are inspired to design beautiful clothing.

Because Fashion Week is upon us – September 9 – 16 – New York City – I felt it only fitting to run a post on fashion.

Here are some examples of fashion prints & posters found on Imagekind.

I worked in the fashion industry as a retail fashion illustrator, (before the days of digital photography and Adobe Photoshop.) I still enjoy creating art with a fashion flare. This is one of such paintings I created for the Kentucky Derby art events. http://www.imagekind.com/Kentucky-Derby-DIva-art?IMID=f0eede77-4106-48eb-9b85-36a60392a702
